anwu-ji and romance

When I started writing Vivant's story, apart from
0. I will finish the story.
There were also a number of other rules I decided.
1. There will be no romance for Vivant.
2. It will be child-safe.
And so here is just to remind myself. There will not be romance. No!
The child-safe factor is very difficult. The very existence of war, or of any sort of violent political disagreement, is often the root of all sorts of child-unsafe atrocities.
And I want west Talgrith to be suitably corrupt. I want people to be desperate to go to any lengths to do something, either to protect themselves or to get what they want. Maybe it's because I read too much Kay...or whoever.
And corruption is never child-safe =/
It is even more difficult when Vivant must keep afloat in that world.
Anwu-ji didn't exist until just recently. Someone serving her role did exist, another beautiful girl, but one who was Talgrithan and not Chuulinese.
Somewhere, I wanted them to split. Maybe I pitied Vivant. Maybe I wanted him to have someone on whom he could rely.
And I want to use Anwu-ji to illustrate a true culture clash. I haven't yet come across a convincing illustration of the Far East in popular fantasy. Pierce's Yamani Islands are just nauseating stereotypes, and it seemed to amalgamate so well with Tortallan culture. It shouldn't.
I'm not sure if Anwu-ji really is beautiful, but that's how Vivant remembers her.
But I want her to be a contradictory character.
